The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — Get your facts correct. The UK does not require a lie detector test to qualify for welfare. Lie detectors were trialed by former Work and Pensions Secretary John Hutton four years ago with 24 councils across Britain. Then, two years ago, the government abandoned the detector tests after the trials suggested they were unreliable.

Our Commissioners or Sheriff’s Dept. in Echols County needs to do something about the Melrose bogging. Apparently those that participate forget that the dirt road is not meant for them to tear up and since when does a mud bogging take place in a residential area? Go figure!

I think it would be wise if the deniers of global warming and climate change take some science classes. VSU offers excellent geology classes which would teach those who dislike science not to fear that which they don’t understand. “The present is the key to the past.”

To the ranter whining about the fire department budget, you are ignorant to the fact that fire department responds to nearly 4,000 calls a year. Anything from fires, wrecks, medical calls, hazmat, rescues and everything no one else will respond to. So next time you are trapped in a burning building at 2 a.m., call your insurance agent and see if they can get you before the fire does.

Sure there’s a big difference between an automobile and concealed firearm. One you notice and the other you don’t, at least not until you threaten my life. Guns and automobiles kill about the same number of people each year. And, close to two-thirds of gun deaths each year are suicide related. This is not the case with automobiles.

The most bizzare part of being evacuated from the UC during the mysterious box incident, was observing the faculty and staff tell one another to “get in your cars immediately and leave” and seeing one actually running away terrified, all while the students stood there frightened and puzzled. I wish I would have seen the staff take some responsibility and help the students. That was pretty shocking.

Sabal Trail pipeline? No thank you! This is my land and I certainly do not want to live next to a 36-inch pipeline!

Folks. None of us will benefit from the pipeline. First they take our land, then they ship the natural gas to China, while we keep paying taxes and have to live next to a ticking time bomb. Do they think we are stupid?
