Raves for Wednesday, March 27, 2013

VALDOSTA — Rave to all the people who work so hard to put on the Easter music and programs in our area. We are so blessed to have them do such good quality of work.

Huge raves to Deep South Sanitation! Their service has been outstanding since the county closed the dump sites. When you call with a question, you even get to talk to the owner.

A big rave to VSU for Science Saturday! Our family had a great time learning about physics and really enjoyed the planetarium show. Thanks!

I want to rave about Tiffany at First State Bank on Baytree Road. She searched through a lot of $5 bills, looking for newer ones for me to use with Easter cards for my grandchildren. Her efforts, with all her responsibilities, pleased this grandmother. First State Bank is lucky to have her.

Raves to Park Avenue United Methodist Church for your annual production of The Promise. It is such a blessing during the holy week and a reminder of our savior's love for us.

There is nothing as beautiful as Valdosta in the springtime. The azaleas and flowering trees are gorgeous.

Congratulations to Valwood girls trio on winning the state literary competition at Valdosta State on Wednesday.

Raves to the VDT for featuring Jim Mullen's column. It is always delightful reading, and especially on Wednesdays. It redeems those boring raves on the same page.

Rave for the Lowndes High Drama Club Play “Beauty and the Beast”, it was outstanding. I wish more people could attend this. The young people are very, very, talented. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Big rave to Family Pizza near Moody! A combination of great food and friendly staff is the reason I've been going there for over 20 years.

Love the new Nashville tractor store in town! My husband raves about the friendly service he receives. He is always talking about the customer service, especially the young man, Kile. He says the young man is especially helpful and knows the business. Wish all the stores in town had this kind of service.

I would like to take the time and thank my daughter’s teacher at Sallas Mahone Elementary. Ms. White. You are the best!! We are sure going to miss you next year!!

Thank you to Petsmart for holding pet adoption events on the weekend!

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.

The Swiss issue all adult men a firearm. Owning a gun does not condone, or create, violence. Lay blame on the person not the tool. If you really believe that banning firearms will end the violence you are sadly misled. All that will happen is law abiding people will not have guns and the criminal (who doesn't obey the law anyway) will.

I don't know of any gun owners who fantasize about being "the good guy with a gun." Just when you think you have heard the most ignorant statement possible, along comes one that tops them all.

Monday, I observed a woman at Walmart getting into her car, with two boys around the age of 8, one of which seated a young infant on his own lap in the rear seat, not using his seat belt. As the lady began backing out, I jumped out of my car and asked her to put that baby in a car seat. Stupid! Please, parents, don’t have a kid, if you don’t care to put them in a seat belt, or wear yours.

To all Facebookers: You look like idiots when you post these “dares” of jumping in cold water or pictures without makeup. What do you think you are accomplishing? Absolutely nothing ... Send money to support the organizations and then you will be making a difference.
