Rant & Rave for Tuesday, MArch 26, 2013

-- — As a paying parent at Valwood, I’m getting tired of all these scholarship athletes.

So tired of all the articles in the paper talking about Lowndes sweeping Valdosta. Like it’s such a great accomplishment to beat a school with 1,200 less students.

I take issue with the eye dropper in a full bathtub theory. You must work for the city. Don’t just take anybody’s OK on the safe fish. I want EPA or EPD approval in the paper. Once you couldn’t cross the river with windows down. Fish were deformed and had worms in them from sewage in the river.

It will take a while to build the new treatment plant. In the meantime, we have heavy rains coming in April and the hurricane season, too. Please spend the money to build the last half of the berm up so we don’t have this same awful happening in the middle of the year and ruin the river again. Wake up!

Since it rained over the weekend do we need to tell our neighbors to the south to not drink the water?

Do unto others as you want others to do unto you ... When you tell somebody that you will do or give them something, do it ... don’t lie about it ... cause one day it will all come back to you and bite you where the sun don’t shine.

Is it smart to announce your intention to run for reelection to the Valdosta City Council after ignoring the sewer problem for years? He should be the first one tossed out for this debacle!

Parents of school children ... It is going to be cold/cool this week. Please don’t send your child to school in summer clothes and sandals.

Please bring back at least one garbage collection site, if only on Saturdays. Advanced Disposal can’t keep up. Some families are larger than others, and when requesting a second can, we were told to sit the bags next to the cans on the ground. With garbage pick-up a day late, the bags are torn open by strays. Bulk pick-up was also late, and was rummaged through by someone at the end of my driveway. Not to mention how unsightly it is. If Advanced can’t do the job, give the citizens an opportunity to take care of their own disposal needs on a pay as you go basis.

Only in South Georgia do folks think it’s normal to ask a 35-year-old woman if she is a grandma!

Yet another AT&T rate increase. Time to expand Mediacom. Come on up Bemiss towards Moody.

How in the world could any pastor allow men to play on their church softball teams at Freedom Park and almost the whole team doesn’t go to church there or anywhere? Isn’t that against the rules?

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.
