Rants & Raves for Friday, November 8, 2013

VALDOSTA — To the man, and I mean Man, that bought my daughter and my meal at ChowTown on Saturday, thank you so much, it was a surprise and flattering act of kindness. We will be back there the first Saturday in December, so maybe we can buy you a meal.

Got the flyer recently in mail about all the city/counties phone numbers. Did no one notice that in Lanier, Cook, Brooks, and Berrien's text, that "Education" is misspelled. How embarrassing to see "Board of Eduction" erroneously repeated that many times. What happened to spell check?

Someone explain to me why a restaurant has to have a food permit, but a church can sell food at their fall festival without one? What is the difference? It seems that religious themed businesses need to either lose the tax exempt status, or stop making money off their members. Jesus didn't sell fish and loaves.

I am reminded of Ronald Reagan every time I view today's America. We were in a bad economy, no one was proud to be an American, our government could not protect a foreign (middle eastern) embassy, we had a new government plan-Department of Energy, and the media said the Republican party was dead. So, to the person who said Reagan could not win the primary: I do not see a Reagan anywhere, in either party, today, unfortunately for America.

If you are talking on your cell phone while driving, at least slow down when going around curves so you can stay on your side of the road.

Can someone help, please. The two flags flying on the east side of the 600 block of North Ashley Street are both badly faded with one split into rags. This is a disgrace to everyone in the USA. Both need to be removed or replaced.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.

The Swiss issue all adult men a firearm. Owning a gun does not condone, or create, violence. Lay blame on the person not the tool. If you really believe that banning firearms will end the violence you are sadly misled. All that will happen is law abiding people will not have guns and the criminal (who doesn't obey the law anyway) will.
