Rants & Raves for Thursday September 26, 2013

VALDOSTA — To the person who works in construction and doesn’t want to be bothered after hours: Do you own the business? Because if you do, you may not for very much longer. A business owner works 24/7. Those that aren’t willing don’t normally stay in business long. If it was me, I’d be happy to answer my phone to give a quote and meet potential business, no matter the time of day.

What will the DDS require next for a driver’s license renewal — a DNA sample? I have had a valid Georgia driver’s license for 32 years. I presented my Georgia concealed carry permit, marriage license, Georgia registered nurse license, my Social Security card and proof of residence. I also served in the military. Yet, they need still need my birth certificate — really?

Does the Lowndes County Board of Education ever intend to address the furlough days with the teachers? After pay cuts, new curriculum, even more teacher accountability, haven’t teachers earned the right to be treated with respect? Your silence ... causes concern.

To the person or persons who took the cat from Petsmart, do the right thing and return the cat and adopt. You know it is the right thing to do.

Leave Coach Randy McPherson alone! The man is only doing his job. The person you should be mad at is the Windsor Forest coach for staying. He had the Mercy Rule; he could’ve stopped playing. He didn’t so therefore the GHSA rules say that the Vikings had to continue to play. I don’t hear anyone complaining when Lowndes does that against Valdosta!

An alert to all cashiers: If you hand a person a penny, it is a “cent.” More than one are “cents.” It’s called plural and adding the “s” is essential. I expect 65 cents in change, not “65 cent.” If your boss hears you speaking correctly, you might just get a raise.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!

Some hillbillies have more money than you do, they just don't flaunt it. Most are hard working, good people, unlike the wealthier, selfish, spoiled, inconsiderate brats. You can lose all your money and education in a blink of an eye. Be thankful God has allowed you to be or have what you do and treat others as you want them to treat you.

Bring back Ronald Reagan, he cut taxes and only raised the federal debt limit 17 times to do it!

It’s a shame to work for someone who gripes all the time. Never a “How are you” or “Thanks for your hard work!”

I think that all facilities owned by the city and county should have signs banning firearms in the buildings. I don’t feel safe if a firearm is there when I am there.

There are some wealthy physicians, business owners in this town who target only certain demographics for their business, and reject competition and growth. With the new statistics of a shrinking Valdosta, I hope you and your selfishness are quite happy when your comfort zone disappears!

Chaining a dog 24/7 is nothing short of animal cruelty. It is time for our elected officials to pass a law against it.

Just announced in Atlanta that Valdosta came in first in the state for percent decrease in population for year 2013. Albany was No. 4. Do you suppose the City School System demographics have anything to do with this. City folks may not think consolidation was so stupid when we start playing in region A.
