The Valdosta Daily Times

--- — You righties knew this soldier had walked away from his base, yet you posted on Facebook that his government has abandoned him. Now that he’s free, you want to send him back. You already knew he deserted. Hypocrites.

Every time I attend a production by our local Theatre Guild or hear the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra or the groups that perform at the lunchtime concerts on the courthouse lawn or the many other local performers, I am amazed how much talent there is in our community. Saturday night at the Rainwater Center was no exception at the Turner Arts “American Soundtrack” show. It was amazing — a Las Vegas, New York or cruise ship-style show right here in our town. A wonderful evening. Folks, I tell you, it equaled anything you will see anywhere.

To the person that said Lowndes County needs another high school, instead of spending more taxpayers dollars, LCS/LHS needs to release all of the students that do not reside in that district first and then take it from there. That is something that should be done.

Fox News is calling for U.S. intervention in Syria and the Ukraine. Overweight gun nut-cases are running around with assault rifles building up their self esteem. Let’s send them overseas and solve this problem once and for all.

Some so-called Christians seem to express their faith with viciousness, malice, and hatred toward the same people that Jesus died for. They seem to take joy in the concept of other people condemned to perdition. Enjoy your roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy when you dine in paradise.

I understood the Christian faith was expressed by love, compassion, and gentleness towards other humans, but reading the posts from professed believers towards those who do not share their faith makes me question my concepts. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

If it is true that, “We have the largest coal-fired electric plant in the entire Western Hemisphere located in the center of Georgia,” my response would be, that’s probably right. Even though the rest of the world is moving on to more efficient, less polluting energy sources, we will endeavor to persevere and devote our energy to successfully preserving our past and building a bridge to the 19th century. We will continue to reject innovation, conservation of resources, recycling or any kook who proposes such wacko things.
