Rant & Rave for Monday, Dec. 9, 2013

-- — Dogs have killed people also. Does that mean they should be illegal as pets? The problem is the person keeping the pet and not properly educating themselves on the pets care needs. But, of course, there are always those who jump to the most simple fix which may not always be the best fix.

You don't like columns written by Leonard Pitts? Guess what? Ignore his column, just as I skip the writings by hypocrites like Star Parker and Cal Thomas. From my point of view Leonard Pitts is right on target with his insightful analyses of daily events, telling it as it is.

I’m very pleased with the judge’s decision in favor of Deep South Sanitation. It would be in poor character for the county to appeal. We should start replacing those commissioners responsible next election.

Doctors seem to care and try hard when they first get in practice but after they have their patients enough to support their money-loving wives, all that goes. Then it is to just push us through like a herd of cattle. CHA-CHING!

I am not a senior citizen but I know several who are that love animals. It helps to have one for your blood pressure, companionship, and a lot of things. Vet care is important for animals, as it is for humans to have physician care. Vets over charge because they know we love our pets like a baby. Animals give so much love but no one should have one if they can’t afford to keep it safe and healthy.

This is disgusting. Talk of raising Tricare premiums, doing away with commissaries ... these are my entitlements for serving my country for 20 years. I hear nothing about those that check out ahead of me with a full cart using an EBT card, or getting free government housing with my tax dollars. They aren’t entitlements if you haven’t earned them so take those perks for those that choose not to work away.

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.
