Rant & Raves for Friday, July 19, 2013

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — We were supposed to retire and take it easy after working and saving for some 25 years. Now, we can’t due to the economy! The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are now outnumbered by the people who vote for a living.

Sure do need a good dentist in Valdosta that would cater to senior citizens. We need someone to repair our dentures, our partials, and our permanent bridges rather than trying to sell us a new set, or a redo that is apt to cost a fortune. Being retired means we have to watch our pennies.

I have done a little bit of firefighting but I have never heard of using foam on a pressurized container fire. If a pressurized container is releasing propane under pressure before the fire is extinguished the flow of propane must be controlled. Otherwise the propane will still release, and being heavier than air, it will sink and seek low places until it finds an ignition source and come back to see you with bad results. Must be an Alabama thing.

To the person who was driving the Lexus SUV and was in front of me Tuesday morning at Zacadoo’s on Perimeter, thanks so much for paying for my breakfast in a cup. You didn’t have to do it, but you did and I appreciate it. I will definitely pay it forward!

It's amazing how one can look another in the eye and lie without any conscience, then they sit in church like the innocent Christian they aren’t.

To all of you in Lowndes who will vote no to SPLOST and complain about high taxes. Well you better get ready because without SPLOST, “money coming from outside Lowndes,” that money is coming only from Lowndes County taxpayers and renters. Use common sense, Lowndes. You want to foot the whole bill for services or do you want money from outside to help? Either way someone is going to pay.

What's wrong with our county/city? The directors and management make anywhere from $60,000, to $100,000 a year salaries. Meanwhile their employees (majority part-time) make anywhere from $6,000 to $30,000 a year. The head honcho salary should not triple employee salary. Pay up and take a pay decrease, or get out! If most Americans have to watch their budget, then so should you. Personal and business.

It’s amazing the number of people spouting off about the Trayvon verdict don't even know the facts about the trial.
