Rant & Rave for Monday, Nov. 19, 2012

-- — There’s no other way to put it: the people wanting to secede are traitors.

Earthquakes seem to be happening with greater frequency and magnitude. I am sure some will point out this is the fault of President Obama.

I hear you, my brother veteran. We dedicate over half our life to the defense and freedom of our country so that those that have never had a productive day in their life can make welfare and free handouts a lifestyle.

I had four stitches at the ER for a total of $1,300. I didn’t have insurance, but I paid it all off. However, when I came back at the appointed time to have the stitches removed, I found that there was an extra charge for that. So I went home, got some scissors and tweezers and removed the stitches myself.

The truth of the cuts to the military are not what the hawks want us to believe. The military wants to be smaller in manpower; and lean heavier on technology. No longer is a military based on millions used as cannon fodder.

“Can we please get Whitewater Road repaved instead of patched. The holes are reopening again for the third or fourth time.” Just one more thing that SPLOST was supposed to have taken care of.

To the person complaining about paramedics “driving right up behind a vehicle and turning the sirens and lights on.” Have you ever considered that a call may have come in when they happen to be sitting behind you? Therefore, the timing of turning their lights and sirens on happen to be while they are behind you?

Most agree. Preachers who work full-time for a church shouldn’t make pennies. But our tithe and offerings should not have to purchase and pay taxes for a home in Kinderlou Forrest or Stone Creek. It should not be used for that extravagance.

How in the world could any pastor allow men to play on their church softball teams at Freedom Park and almost the whole team doesn’t go to church there or anywhere? Isn’t that against the rules?

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.
