Rants & Raves for Thursday, December 12, 2013

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — How do you know if the person with a shopping buggy full of groceries in front of you paying with their EBT card isn’t disabled, a veteran, a disabled veteran or someone who works full time and still can’t make ends meet? How do you know that person in front of you isn’t just as entitled to benefits as you are? You have no idea unless you ask someone and why would you? It’s not really any of your business. Why do so many people feel so entitled  to other people’s business? Not much of your tax money is going towards others’ EBT cards.

American fascination with communist revolutionaries goes on. Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Nelson Mandela, all successful revolutionaries that killed thousands for the communist cause. Ironically as Nelson Mandela’s funeral is being attended by three American presidents, the people of Kiev Ukraine tore down the statue of Lenin yesterday, another “father of Communism” that killed millions in Russia. What do they know that most Americans haven’t figured out yet?

To the ranter about Star Parker and Cal Thomas being hypocrites. Do you even know what a hypocrite is? Read all the columns and make your own decision about their content. Might surprise you. Remember, practice what you preach or you may be a hypocrite.

It is sad to go into the stores this Christmas where there is no Christmas music to enjoy and listen to while you shop. Something is wrong with this as they want you to buy merchandise for Christmas, which they have no problem with and they also sell the Christmas music and sell the movies.

To Tuesday’s ranter, you’re obviously coming to the discussion a bit late. No one is complaining about paying public school taxes. The parallel was simply being drawn between paying for a service like public schools which you may never use to paying for a service like maternity benefits which you may never use.

Several companies offer Internet in Valdosta. What is this monopoly you speak of? It’s not like we are talking about trash pick up.

We have two Internet end suppliers here (AT&T and Mediacom). You may pay a different company (i.e. Vwave) that may have some control over usage limits, but AT&T owns the phone lines and they determine speeds, quality, etc. Mediacom owns the cable lines.
