VALDOSTA — Recently at the Westside Elementary School book fair, I witnessed amazing kindness that deserves a rave. A volunteer at the book fair, Mr. Joel Hunt, was assisting me at the cash register when a second-grade child came to pay for two books she had picked out to purchase. We praised her for choosing books above her grade level, and I rang up her books. The total was $37. She then handed me one dollar and some change, all the money she had. Before I could tell her she didn’t have enough to buy the books, Mr. Hunt said he could not let her ambition go to waste and he paid the balance. Later that day, he also gave a kindergarten teacher $50 to buy a book for all the children in her class who did not have enough money. From all of us, book fair volunteers and Westside Media Center staff, we want to say, Thank you, Joel Hunt! The world needs more people like you!
