Rant & Raves for Friday, February 22, 2013

VALDOSTA — A big rave to the Valdosta City Schools Board of Education for choosing Marty Roesch as the next superintendent! Thank you! He will do well and lead Valdosta City Schools into the future, including the building of the new high school and campus on Inner Perimeter Road.

Thanks to all of the hard-working employees at Bubba Jax Crab Shack. It is nice to go in this seafood restaurant and have great service each and every time that you visit. They are all so friendly. So, if you want to eat some delicious seafood, make sure you go eat at this place. You will not go away hungry, that’s for sure.

Sheriff Prine stated concerning last weekends roadblocks, ‘We were there primarily to get drunks off the roads.’ There were only seven DUI arrests, according to the VDT. I believe it was great getting these seven people driving under the influence, not necessarily “drunks,” off the roads. But was it really worth the cost to county and the state?

The government is trying to squirm out of the sequestration deal they signed, so they can keep over-spending our money. That’s like a child who wants a treat, then tries to squirm out of doing chores. Would you accept this behavior from your child? Of course not. So don’t accept this kind of behavior from your government. Call Congress and tell them to stick with sequester and cut over-spending now.

New tax is $732.12 for a $11,325 car sold by owner. Versus current ad valorum $140, about 10 years to break even (value and ad valorum drop each year). So keep it too long and face expensive repairs or pay another high tax for another used car. Low and middle income buy used, hurting them the most. Not the President’s vision.

Estimated that 10 percent of the U.S. population are career crooks, caught and not caught. Crime is the most logical career choice, all things considered. Because our governments (politicians) and their cronies have jiggled all systems to promote crime. That’s how 10 percent puts such fear in 90 percent. Causing great expense in security and causing the great self-defense gun debate.

I am very disappointed  with our commissioners who voted for this tax hike for Lowndes County. We voted for the SPLOST with an understanding we would not get a tax hike. Liar, liar, pants on fire, is what my mother used to say.

Here’s an idea. Learn basic math before posting numbers about crime rates. The US has 1 violent crime for every 26 citizens not 1 per 262. Geesh.

To the ranter about the A/C in the jails, you are 100 percent right. The male and females should be treated equal. Neither side should have any A/C. If I am struggling to put gas in the car to get to work to put food on my family’s table and not running our A/C to keep down our living cost then why should those parasites get their three squares a day, cable TV and A/C? Put them in tents and pink outfits and feed them PB&J that comes out of their own funds. Yes, just like Sheriff Joe out in Arizona.

It seems people in this town, and especially those in my church are not happy unless they are complaining about something. Today’s earth-shaking rant is that the choir members are too noisy when they change into their robes before the Mass. Give it a rest or you won’t have a choir.

Funny, the people criticizing immigrants coming here looking for a better life for their family, are only here because their ancestors immigrated here for a better life for their family.

Of the proposed 75 million that is needed to teach the students of Lowndes County for one school year, 55 million of that goes towards salaries. I don't want to hear no complaints about teachers salaries or furloughs again.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!
