Rant & Rave for Monday, Oct. 15, 2012

-- — I wish Valdosta and Lowndes would call a truce and stop the childish games about the ticket allotments for the Winnersville Classic game. Valdosta's visitors side should all go to Lowndes, as that side is much smaller than their home side. Lowndes should allot the same amount of tickets that Valdosta has on their visitor side, leaving a few more for Lowndes fans on the visitor side since their stadium is larger on the visitor side.

Oh, ranter — I just love how "gangs and drugs" go hand-in-hand with "liberalism" in our public schools. I could argue that narrow-mindedness and self-righteousness go hand-in-hand with conservatism.

What's going on, Lowndes County Schools? My child loses his gifted teacher down in Lake Park last year. And now this year, at Lowndes Middle, you move the gifted teacher into another position? My child needs a good education and stability, too.

Smokers, please stop throwing your cigarette butts out onto the road. If you don't want them in your car, what makes you think people want them on the street or in the grass? To the female driver of the grey Lexus on North Valdosta Road: Shame on you for throwing out your butts.

Where is the "Professionalism" of the Lowndes County Public Works Department? I can’t believe the Recycling Lot attendants had to read in the paper today they may not have a job come the first of the year. Isn't it their duty to inform their employees of the possible loss of their jobs? Some may need to start looking for other employment.

City construction workers on River Street: Thank you so much for starting work at 10 p.m.! Sleep is overrated, and nothing is more soothing than the sound of drills and grinding metal!

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.
