Rant & Rave for Friday, April 5, 2013

-- — When is the City of Valdosta going to start spraying for mosquitoes? The area around McKey Park and neighborhoods by the creek are over run with the pests. Please help us.

To the person whose coupon binder was stolen at Publix — please go by the library on Woodrow Wilson Drive (Reference Desk) and ask to go through the coupons we have on hand. Everyone is welcome to take what they need. Hope your binder is returned to you ASAP and that wonderful things will happen for you and yours.

A rant to the two city ticket writers that hound the VSU art students: Guess you think running projects in for two seconds is illegal. Another thing that really bugs me is that my tuition goes to you two ladies sitting in the Interior Design gallery because it’s cold outside.

To the person defending the yellow church van: If your goal is to feed hungry children, you will listen to the person's complaint and make adjustments so that every child is fed. Whether their complaint is legitimate or not, your true self is showing.

To the person who still wants to rant about the issue at Valwood, please take it up with Valwood, enough already!

Are First Lady or University Ambassador titles to be used? Check out the Faculty Processional Packet sent out today from the chairperson of the Presidential Inauguration Investiture Ceremony and Reception subcommittee. Guess what, one and the same person.

Valwood does not offer scholarships. They offer financial aid to families who apply to the several options listed on the website — even student athletes.

A rave for Cindy at Winn-Dixie on North Ashley  in the Floral Department! She took the time to answer my questions, had a lot of ideas, assisted and made a beautiful fruit basket in no time at all. Highly recommend her!

How in the world could any pastor allow men to play on their church softball teams at Freedom Park and almost the whole team doesn’t go to church there or anywhere? Isn’t that against the rules?

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.
