Rants & Raves for Thursday, October 31, 2013

VALDOSTA — Hate to break it to you, but I think Dwight D. Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan would be horrified by the Republican party at this point. And I doubt either of them would have made it out of the primaries today.

Is it possible for a liberal to compose a rant that doesn't contain the words "Fox News"? Tell me, do you expect every single news outlet in the country to trowel out only his majesty's propaganda? Is one dissenting voice really that threatening? I guess it must be.

It amazes me the number of rude and disgusting people in Valdosta who toss wads of chew, flick cigarettes, and spit out their windows. Nobody else wants to see your nasty habit, let alone have it hit their car. Keep that nasty stuff to yourself!

I will vote for SPLOST the day our leaders show me where in the world they put the money I gave the last 20 years.

Today, I can rave! Allow me first: Communication in any form is better than none. I communicated frustration to the VDT RANT/rave a while back about a young man driving a yellow Nissan Xterra. Contact with this young man was successful. Thank you VDT for posting my rant and thank you Chris for fulfilling your promise to my elderly mother. Continue your hard work and you will be rewarded. Peace, harmony, and faith in your neighbor has been restored!

Tailgaters are nothing more than ignorant lawless bullies! I just hope the next one has really good insurance because my brakes work great!

Sunday morning, a young family in a white Enclave got behind us while we were peacefully driving along Gornto Road. I can only assume they were late to church as they almost hit us when they passed us driving 65 through this residential area. As usual, we pulled along side them at two red lights even though the young man continued to speed and tailgate every car he came up behind! Slow down, people!

How in the world could any pastor allow men to play on their church softball teams at Freedom Park and almost the whole team doesn’t go to church there or anywhere? Isn’t that against the rules?

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.
