The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — Blame your insurance company, not Obamacare for your rates going up. They would have gone up regardless. Get real and check facts about why this is really happening.

I couldn't afford private health  care and I certainly cannot afford the outrageous Bronze Plan in Obamacare. Now I have to pay a tax for unaffordable healthcare. Isn't freedom great?

My insurance is going up $250! Thanks to Obama I am paying for mine and yours.

The Valdosta City Council should make nice with the County Commission as we will need the county folks to help us pay for our new Waste Water Treatment Plant. If the county voters see the City Council as giving the County Commission the back of their hand (figuratively) then we can kiss SPLOST VII good-bye.

I believe progress can be a great thing also. There are things that should never change though, one being a strong work ethic. Knowing that you have to work for what you get and not simply given things. Nothing is free. Welfare, education, food stamps, etc. are paid by taxpayers who have a right to speak up when the system is blatantly being abused.

I sure do hope that the new construction of VHS will include a new stadium for them! Can someone state whether that will be the case? Sell the old one to VSU and get everything in one place!

It is way past time for new leadership at the SGMC. Given all the problems, vacant office buildings, a closed down fifth floor, and horrible employee morale, how much more evidence does the Board need to make changes?

It's too bad about the federal shutdown, but employees furloughed should not receive a paid vacation. They should be given the opportunity to make up those 12 workdays by working consecutive Saturdays at their normal rate of pay (not overtime). They could also opt not to make up the time and pay. That would be fair to the federal workers who worked through the shutdown.

In 2008 while our economy was crashing and people were losing jobs, the Valdosta City Council voted to give themselves an $800 per month retirement benefit if they served 3 terms. What a great deal for a part-time job.

Finally, a truly good idea in the R&R! Why don’t  the campus cops at VSU patrol the campus on bicycles? Makes perfect sense. That's where the police are needed, not cruising the streets in a staff car?
