Raves for Wednesday, April 17, 2013

VALDOSTA — I would like to submit a rave for Dr. Ron Reagin and his office staff. Everyone always greets me by name, the service is prompt, and everyone is very kind there. Great work!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the considerate and kind Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputy who paid to put $10 of gas in my car when I did not have my wallet at the gas station this afternoon. I am so thankful and will pass on the kindness!

Way to go, Open Bible Warriors! You defeated a great ball club, the Appling Eagle team, 4-1.

Tuesday night the Valdosta Police department responded to our office for a possible break-in in progress. I just want to praise the officers who responded. They arrived quickly and did a fantastic, professional job of checking to make sure everything was secure.

Attending the Spring into Art reception was a delightful way to spend an evening. The event was well organized, everyone was congenial, the food was delicious and the artwork was outstanding. My sincere gratitude goes out to everyone who had a role in bringing the show and reception so beautifully.

Thanks to the lady that turned in my father's diploma to Echols County Library.

A big thank you to Frock Star Vintage in the Old Southern building on Ashley Street for helping me find a costume for my child who was in a play. It’s a  great shop and I would like to thank him for his help.

Rave to Advanced Disposal from a satisfied customer in Stone Creek. Every Monday, whatever I have placed by the curb has been picked up by the time I return home from work.

I want to give a huge rave to Valdosta Lowndes Parks and Recreation. My child has been playing sports there for about five years and this past year it seems that the program has improved and we are enjoying it more than ever. Thank you!

Many thanks to the honest person who turned in my wallet at Winn Dixie at Five Points. I was frantic when I realized I  lost it but when I went back  my wallet  was turned in with all of the contents. Thank  you for turning it in.

Raves to Colyer’s Jewelry on Ashley for helping a stranger in town get his glasses fixed. These are good, honest people.

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.

The Swiss issue all adult men a firearm. Owning a gun does not condone, or create, violence. Lay blame on the person not the tool. If you really believe that banning firearms will end the violence you are sadly misled. All that will happen is law abiding people will not have guns and the criminal (who doesn't obey the law anyway) will.

I don't know of any gun owners who fantasize about being "the good guy with a gun." Just when you think you have heard the most ignorant statement possible, along comes one that tops them all.

Monday, I observed a woman at Walmart getting into her car, with two boys around the age of 8, one of which seated a young infant on his own lap in the rear seat, not using his seat belt. As the lady began backing out, I jumped out of my car and asked her to put that baby in a car seat. Stupid! Please, parents, don’t have a kid, if you don’t care to put them in a seat belt, or wear yours.

To all Facebookers: You look like idiots when you post these “dares” of jumping in cold water or pictures without makeup. What do you think you are accomplishing? Absolutely nothing ... Send money to support the organizations and then you will be making a difference.
