Rant & Rave for Monday, July 29, 2013

-- — I read the article today about Defense cut backs. It worries me to read articles like this when I hear and see so much waste in all areas of our government. I am hearing more people talking about food stamp recipients who sell their food stamp card money for fifty cent on the dollar to support their drug and alcohol abuse, while their little children go hungry. They also use their free cell phones our government gives them to make drug deals. There should be some way to make people more accountable for what they are given. A requirement for proof that the person using the card is actually the individual the card is issued to would reduce abuse of the system.

To the person that noticed S.L. Mason’s flags being weather worn. It’s not just S.L. Mason’s flags that look this way. I have a student that goes to a county school, and their flags are an embarrassment as well. All schools should start their new year with new flags.

Could the residents on Triple Lake Drive please get some assistance from the City of Dasher? This road connects Triple Lake Circle and Triple Lake Road and is used by all 30 residents and their families. The part that is in need of repair is the part the city owns. I have left and sent several emails and voice mails with no response. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

We still have honest people in the world. I was told by a couple of car places that I needed a set of tires. I went around pricing and stopped at Ray Norton Auto. Jim told me I just need to rotate them. That is one  honest man.

I would sure like to know where all of Echols County tax money is going. They sure aren’t using it to repair dirt roads. There are holes almost deep enough to swallow your tires, and if you do see a work crew they are usually standing around flapping their jaws or sitting. The dirt roads are terrible. Echols needs to get down to business and do something for the taxpayers.

Estimated that 10 percent of the U.S. population are career crooks, caught and not caught. Crime is the most logical career choice, all things considered. Because our governments (politicians) and their cronies have jiggled all systems to promote crime. That’s how 10 percent puts such fear in 90 percent. Causing great expense in security and causing the great self-defense gun debate.

I am very disappointed  with our commissioners who voted for this tax hike for Lowndes County. We voted for the SPLOST with an understanding we would not get a tax hike. Liar, liar, pants on fire, is what my mother used to say.

Here’s an idea. Learn basic math before posting numbers about crime rates. The US has 1 violent crime for every 26 citizens not 1 per 262. Geesh.

To the ranter about the A/C in the jails, you are 100 percent right. The male and females should be treated equal. Neither side should have any A/C. If I am struggling to put gas in the car to get to work to put food on my family’s table and not running our A/C to keep down our living cost then why should those parasites get their three squares a day, cable TV and A/C? Put them in tents and pink outfits and feed them PB&J that comes out of their own funds. Yes, just like Sheriff Joe out in Arizona.

It seems people in this town, and especially those in my church are not happy unless they are complaining about something. Today’s earth-shaking rant is that the choir members are too noisy when they change into their robes before the Mass. Give it a rest or you won’t have a choir.

Funny, the people criticizing immigrants coming here looking for a better life for their family, are only here because their ancestors immigrated here for a better life for their family.

Of the proposed 75 million that is needed to teach the students of Lowndes County for one school year, 55 million of that goes towards salaries. I don't want to hear no complaints about teachers salaries or furloughs again.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!
