Rant & Rave for Friday, April 12, 2013

-- — So you think that VHS should get rid of a perfectly good coach to hire another coach who is less qualified just because the coach is black? Because that is what they did in the movie.

There are many beautiful oak trees on the new side of Valdosta High School. I hope someone doesn’t go in and cut them down and then apologize  for it later. This would be a very sad thing  for Valdosta.

I will not vote another penny more in SPLOST as long as the current city politicians are in office. Your track record for mismanagement of tax dollars is showing, and you want to blame the newspaper. Dig harder, Valdosta Daily Times, and we may get a few of these folks into court under oath.

Can someone at the City of Lake Park please explain why Lake Park Elementary school had to go without water and bathrooms Monday for almost two hours?

Wake up, Lowndes County commissioners! You gave up a larger percentage of SPLOST monies to the City of Valdosta with the condition they do not apply for a MOST. It looks like that tax may be back on the city’s table. Did you get that agreement in writing?

I have read the Times’ two page unedited communication between the City of Valdosta and the newspaper. It is very difficult for anyone to “get their head around” the city’s accounting, not just your reporter.

Our mayor and selected officials are invited to a private meeting with the Chamber of Commerce to discuss city business and the media is not permitted to attend? The timing by the Chamber president could not be any worse. What are you hiding? Be very careful what you discuss and what type of strategy comes out of that meeting.

The girls soccer game on Tuesday featured Valdosta hosting Tifton. While the Wildcats lost 4-1, the other team's behavior before the game (during warm-ups) left something to be desired. One or more girls on the Tifton team were not conducting themselves in a very lady-like fashion. The boys in the stands were hooting and hollering, but is that really how student athletes should behave? And where were the coaches?

Estimated that 10 percent of the U.S. population are career crooks, caught and not caught. Crime is the most logical career choice, all things considered. Because our governments (politicians) and their cronies have jiggled all systems to promote crime. That’s how 10 percent puts such fear in 90 percent. Causing great expense in security and causing the great self-defense gun debate.

I am very disappointed  with our commissioners who voted for this tax hike for Lowndes County. We voted for the SPLOST with an understanding we would not get a tax hike. Liar, liar, pants on fire, is what my mother used to say.

Here’s an idea. Learn basic math before posting numbers about crime rates. The US has 1 violent crime for every 26 citizens not 1 per 262. Geesh.

To the ranter about the A/C in the jails, you are 100 percent right. The male and females should be treated equal. Neither side should have any A/C. If I am struggling to put gas in the car to get to work to put food on my family’s table and not running our A/C to keep down our living cost then why should those parasites get their three squares a day, cable TV and A/C? Put them in tents and pink outfits and feed them PB&J that comes out of their own funds. Yes, just like Sheriff Joe out in Arizona.

It seems people in this town, and especially those in my church are not happy unless they are complaining about something. Today’s earth-shaking rant is that the choir members are too noisy when they change into their robes before the Mass. Give it a rest or you won’t have a choir.

Funny, the people criticizing immigrants coming here looking for a better life for their family, are only here because their ancestors immigrated here for a better life for their family.

Of the proposed 75 million that is needed to teach the students of Lowndes County for one school year, 55 million of that goes towards salaries. I don't want to hear no complaints about teachers salaries or furloughs again.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!
