The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — I was amazed, when I read all the articles regarding Lowndes High School Mock Trial Team — how impressive. I’m even more impressed that VDT ran so many articles about an academic sport! Way to go!

Isn't it funny that the poorest states in the country are Southern states with Republican govenors? Is that your plan of trickle down?

Touche to the individual who thwarted the burglars last week; however, authorities say do not confront felons. Despite your 2nd Amendment right, a few material items is not worth your life. The life you save may be your own.

My husband was one of those folks hired from ”out of area.” He fought the good ol’ boy network for over four years to no avail. Valdosta and the surrounding areas will continue to see educated, high-earning families leave due to its ways.

I have been a firefighter in the VFD for five  years. It is a shame that I make $8.95 an hour, the same wage as when I started. This high risk job can take us from our families at any time, saving you. Our city manager and council should be ashamed. We deserve more respect!

A home owner on Azalea Drive told me he saw not one, but two large rats  climbing up the side of his house this week. He's never had a rat problem. Would the demolition contractor or the City of Remerton tell us if they ran a lot of rats out of the Old Cotton Mill when they tore it down? If so, let us know. If they did not kill them, they had to go somewhere. Have other homes seen an increase in rats?

I hope our governor finally does something sensible, and vetoes the inane bill to require drug testing of food stamp recipients. First of all, drug use is higher among the general public than those receiving food stamps. Secondly, the same law has been ruled unconstitutional in other states. Finally, it’s against federal law.

I carry concealed and I will meet deadly force with deadly force at the time I am threatened. For the rest of you not carrying concealed, you can call 911 and wait another five minutes for your deadly force to arrive.

You hit the nail on the head. Speedy Hot Dogs at The Home Depot is the best. I wish he would close a little bit later.

Who's running our schools? My daughter said that a student cussed and threatened to hit her teacher and the student was not even sent home. Why is behavior such as this tolerated these days?
