Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013

-- — People need to stop complaining about the garbage pickup. The drivers are doing all they can and working long hours to pick up everything on the ground. Some of the drivers said they are working 70+ hours a week to get it all done.

It is illegal to sell your food stamps. That is why there is so much abuse with the system. This program was meant to feed the hungry, not buy other non-food items such as cleaning supplies, alcohol, and cigarettes. I do know what I see with my own eyes and I work and pay taxes and I don’t eat as well as some on food stamps.

I have seen the legal system release the same, sometimes known to be dangerous individual onto our communities too often, without any real consequences, to commit even more murders so long as the victims were poor and minorities.

Free breakfast and lunch for all students in Valdosta City Schools. How awesome is that?

Companies cutting employees’ benefits as well as the number of part-time employees that are only allowed 20 hours a week or less will only result in poor customer service and a significant drop in overall sales and service. In return, more layoffs and business closures. Take care of employees that take care of your business. Or keep hiring people that don’t care if they make a sale and treat customers with disrespect.

So who do I call to complain about the traffic lights in this town? They have been this way for ever now and nothing has been done. Do I have to make a video and show the city?

This is the rant and rave column. If you want to know how many dogs or people are allowed in a house in the city, call the city or look it up the city code. If you want the telephone number for the city, don’t write rant and rave, look it up in the telephone book.

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.
