Rant & Raves for Wednesday, November 21, 2012

-- — OK Liberals — your man won. Now hold him accountable for all the same things you held Bush accountable for: spending, honesty, transparency, work ethic. Bush had his issues, but Obama makes Bush look like an angel.

It's upsetting to see Christmas lights up already when Thanksgiving isn't even here yet. People's mentality is that once Halloween is over it's time to celebrate Christmas. Really? Shouldn't we give thanks before we overrun the stores to buy useless and meaningless presents?

Emergency responders (police, paramedics, firefighters) need to be as careful when they're driving to an emergency. Driving around the streets at excessive speeds can only lead to accidents where people could get injured or even killed. That defeats the purpose of having these types of individuals in our community.

If SPLOST funds were used correctly and not wasted on needless projects, then the people of this community would vote for that type of fund. People are worried that their hard-earned tax dollars will not be put to good use. Envision projects that will be a benefit to most, if not all, community members.

Please be aware that there are bogus letters, from so-called "investors" located overseas (Hong Kong), being mailed to innocent citizens in Lowndes County. They are inviting you to contact them for an opportunity to make money by investing with them. This is a scam, and for your own safety, please do not respond in any way offered by them.

People wanting to secede are not traitors. Past revolutionaries and secessionists viewed their governments as corrupt and abusive. The Civil War was about the erosion of states' rights. This current movement is about having a Marxist in the White House.

Medical costs are getting to be outrageous. And the doctors have the nerve to tell you that you need this test or that procedure done. Like I can just whip out my debit card and pay everything that they want done. I'm not made of money like you are, Dr. Whoever. Cut down on your costs, please.

I voted against SPLOST. Not because I do not want to see lovely auditoriums and other fancy stuff come to Valdosta, but because only the rich will be able to enjoy the things that SPLOST would bring to the community. The poor and middle class would sit back and watch their dollars being used by the rich, just like it is now!

Estimated that 10 percent of the U.S. population are career crooks, caught and not caught. Crime is the most logical career choice, all things considered. Because our governments (politicians) and their cronies have jiggled all systems to promote crime. That’s how 10 percent puts such fear in 90 percent. Causing great expense in security and causing the great self-defense gun debate.

I am very disappointed  with our commissioners who voted for this tax hike for Lowndes County. We voted for the SPLOST with an understanding we would not get a tax hike. Liar, liar, pants on fire, is what my mother used to say.

Here’s an idea. Learn basic math before posting numbers about crime rates. The US has 1 violent crime for every 26 citizens not 1 per 262. Geesh.

To the ranter about the A/C in the jails, you are 100 percent right. The male and females should be treated equal. Neither side should have any A/C. If I am struggling to put gas in the car to get to work to put food on my family’s table and not running our A/C to keep down our living cost then why should those parasites get their three squares a day, cable TV and A/C? Put them in tents and pink outfits and feed them PB&J that comes out of their own funds. Yes, just like Sheriff Joe out in Arizona.

It seems people in this town, and especially those in my church are not happy unless they are complaining about something. Today’s earth-shaking rant is that the choir members are too noisy when they change into their robes before the Mass. Give it a rest or you won’t have a choir.

Funny, the people criticizing immigrants coming here looking for a better life for their family, are only here because their ancestors immigrated here for a better life for their family.

Of the proposed 75 million that is needed to teach the students of Lowndes County for one school year, 55 million of that goes towards salaries. I don't want to hear no complaints about teachers salaries or furloughs again.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!
