Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014

VALDOSTA — Why is it when I call the VLPRA office I always get the answering machine with a message about games being canceled in November?

Based on the economic model of Colorado, legalized pot means a boost in local businesses with registered, controlled growers and a jump in tax revenue for its sales.

I can't believe the Lowndes Board of Education approved a band trip to Hawaii costing each student over $2,000 each. How many people go for free with each child costing that much?

A ranter recently wrote, "I vote that no more crackpot comments be allowed here regarding marijuana legalization. Too much ignorance and misinformation." I agree, but would like to go one step further; I vote that no more crackpot, ignorant, misinformed or any other comments be allowed which disagree in any manner with my comments. After all, mine are well informed, well thought out, and my way is the only way. If you disagree, you are stupid.

A local ladies clothing shop has an employee that loves to snatch open the curtain about the time you are undressed. There is no hiding since mirrors are all around and anyone passing by can see you, too. How rude and an invasion of our privacy! It is uncalled for. I won't be returning and since my experience, others have told me they have been done the same and they will not return. If there was a reason, it would be different but there is absolutely no reason for that type of behavior except for this woman to get her thrills.

Thanks to the nice couple who “paid it forward” last Saturday afternoon at Longhorn's by paying for lunch for my wife and me without us knowing. We will pay it forward. Don't we live in a great city?

Of the proposed 75 million that is needed to teach the students of Lowndes County for one school year, 55 million of that goes towards salaries. I don't want to hear no complaints about teachers salaries or furloughs again.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!

Some hillbillies have more money than you do, they just don't flaunt it. Most are hard working, good people, unlike the wealthier, selfish, spoiled, inconsiderate brats. You can lose all your money and education in a blink of an eye. Be thankful God has allowed you to be or have what you do and treat others as you want them to treat you.

Bring back Ronald Reagan, he cut taxes and only raised the federal debt limit 17 times to do it!

It’s a shame to work for someone who gripes all the time. Never a “How are you” or “Thanks for your hard work!”

I think that all facilities owned by the city and county should have signs banning firearms in the buildings. I don’t feel safe if a firearm is there when I am there.

There are some wealthy physicians, business owners in this town who target only certain demographics for their business, and reject competition and growth. With the new statistics of a shrinking Valdosta, I hope you and your selfishness are quite happy when your comfort zone disappears!

Chaining a dog 24/7 is nothing short of animal cruelty. It is time for our elected officials to pass a law against it.
