Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014

-- — The argument that pot is natural so it can’t be bad is such a silly argument. Poison ivy is also natural, want to smoke that? The point here is that there may be other arguments for/against legalizing pot, but please stop using this one. There may be benefits, but do they outweigh the negatives? Most of cannabis’ benefits can be gained through its oil without smoking.

The city needs to check the additional benches that have been put out around town with advertisement. There is a limit approved years ago for whatever the charity is, which is a good thing, but they need to be limited and approved at the corners. They can be very distracting and lead to accidents.

I commend Ashton who works  at Ashley Cinema Theater. I brought my granddaughters in Saturday night and he was a very courteous man, a very good employee. He  deserves a raise.

Is there a traffic division in the City of Valdosta? If so, is the agenda of this division to add red lights to hinder the flow of traffic? Who am I kidding? Valdosta does not have traffic flow. Valdosta has traffic jerk, from one red light to the next.

Good job, Lowndes High girls, for winning region champ.

Congressman Kingston and Congressman Scott again voted on Feb. 11, 2014, to allow the United States to default on the federal debt. Hoping, I guess, to create another federal financial crisis. Fortunately, other House Republicans, along with House Democrats, voted to temporarily extend the debt limit to March 2015. What were our two Congressmen thinking?

I would like to send a huge thank you to Jeff Atkins of Jeff Atkins Roofing. He is an excellent roofer who stands behind his work and his word. He showed up on time and cleaned up the work area when completed. He also responded when we had a minor leak and fixed it in the rain.

Estimated that 10 percent of the U.S. population are career crooks, caught and not caught. Crime is the most logical career choice, all things considered. Because our governments (politicians) and their cronies have jiggled all systems to promote crime. That’s how 10 percent puts such fear in 90 percent. Causing great expense in security and causing the great self-defense gun debate.

I am very disappointed  with our commissioners who voted for this tax hike for Lowndes County. We voted for the SPLOST with an understanding we would not get a tax hike. Liar, liar, pants on fire, is what my mother used to say.

Here’s an idea. Learn basic math before posting numbers about crime rates. The US has 1 violent crime for every 26 citizens not 1 per 262. Geesh.

To the ranter about the A/C in the jails, you are 100 percent right. The male and females should be treated equal. Neither side should have any A/C. If I am struggling to put gas in the car to get to work to put food on my family’s table and not running our A/C to keep down our living cost then why should those parasites get their three squares a day, cable TV and A/C? Put them in tents and pink outfits and feed them PB&J that comes out of their own funds. Yes, just like Sheriff Joe out in Arizona.

It seems people in this town, and especially those in my church are not happy unless they are complaining about something. Today’s earth-shaking rant is that the choir members are too noisy when they change into their robes before the Mass. Give it a rest or you won’t have a choir.

Funny, the people criticizing immigrants coming here looking for a better life for their family, are only here because their ancestors immigrated here for a better life for their family.

Of the proposed 75 million that is needed to teach the students of Lowndes County for one school year, 55 million of that goes towards salaries. I don't want to hear no complaints about teachers salaries or furloughs again.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!
