VALDOSTA — I got the message from the Valdosta Councilman’s not being able to be charged with DUI. If you have an alcohol-related accident, flee and are not  found for at least three hours, leaving the scene is a lot cheaper and less damning than a DUI.

VSU students should be made to cross only where the crossing is painted for them on the street, not near it. We cannot watch the crossing and the ones too lazy that cut it short. A few steps more could save your life. Did you not hear of the others that have been injured or killed?

How does charging the student who hit the pedestrian who died with misdemeanor homicide help the student who died, the person who hit her, or society?

Our Industrial Authority is a joke. They are not only ineffective, but hang on to the shirt tails of businesses that are expanding, as though they had something to do with it. Maybe they will count themselves as a "new business" with the purchase of their new building. Just another authority in Valdosta that has to beg unqualified members of the community to join their board.

A family member of mine was recently treated at the Dasher Memorial Heart Center at SGMC. The physicians, nurses and staff were all wonderful.

Many thanks to PetSmart and BARC for spending Valentine’s Day weekend adopting out animals.

"I don't pay attention to politics," is one of the most ignorant statements a person can make. If you allow people in your government to commit crimes in your name without questioning their actions, you are just as guilty as they are.

You're kidding about the Chamber of Commerce needing to modernize, right? What the Board of Directors need to concentrate on is the working conditions of the Chamber's employees.

How in the world could any pastor allow men to play on their church softball teams at Freedom Park and almost the whole team doesn’t go to church there or anywhere? Isn’t that against the rules?

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.
