The Valdosta Daily Times
Privatizing garbage collection has a little to do with the amount of trash on the roadways, but it has more to do with people who simply throw their trash from their moving cars rather than taking it home for disposal. It involves a complete lack of respect for oneself or the community.
Thank you, VDT, for having the courage to say what others don’t want to. We have no new jobs, are losing businesses and the people taking our tax dollars don’t care and keep coming back for more. I think they need to give us our money back.
I read with interest the editorials and comments this week about Valdosta’s poor economy. When the best thing you have going for you is that you convinced an industry to not to move, you’re in trouble. Instead of being mad at the paper, those responsible should be ashamed.
It’s all over SGMC that the doctors are trying to take over and push out the administrators, the Authority and the attorney. They want to run the whole show just like they did at Smith. While the staff gets cut, the doctors keep getting rich and when they don’t get their way, they throw a tantrum and threaten to buy it and fire everybody. Why isn’t the VDT writing about it?
Years ago when our economy wanted free trade, I knew our economy would not stay afloat. You can’t send manufacturing and agriculture overseas and stimulate our growth here.
I agree that no one should dump trash out on the road. But let’s get serious. The police have better things to do than trace serial numbers on a TV. I hope they do, at least. If they actually did this, people would holler about them not catching dangerous criminals. And anyway, that TV could have been sold five different times since it was originally bought.
Is SGMC being sold?
We are supposed to believe, even though we have had no negligible temperature rise in the last decade, that the earth is warming due to our energy usage. This means we must enact strict government regulations that gives the government even more control over our lives to deal with it or be penalized even though the historical data clearly shows periods of warming and cooling of the earth over recorded history. Good stewardship of the earth is a good thing but fabrication and distortion of the truth in order to gain control is another.
With states legalizing marijuana, how are the cops and judicial system going to test and prosecute those impaired and accident-related DUIs? I know vertical HGN tests for drug use but what are the blood baselines for impairment?
