VALDOSTA — Officials of both the City of Valdosta and Lowndes County have some explaining to do to the public with regards to possible millage increases. Give us a good reason why this needs to happen. The taxpayers of this area deserve to be shown cuts in the city and county first, before we increase taxes. There is a lot of waste within local government, and money that can be saved if people would just think differently.
What's up with SGMC’s crazy threat tactics for bills now? Refused to give me test for heart condition unless I paid full co-pay and deductible up front, even though I have insurance that pays well. Who has $2,000 in their pocket? All you hear are complaints about the hospital and greedy doctors running the place into the ground. Going to Tally from now on.
Yes, Mr. Mayor, most taxpayers know they are paying county property taxes. In fact, taxpayers think that all the taxes are from the county since the bill came from the Lowndes County tax commissioner. They don’t see the state, city and school board amounts. If they live in Valdosta, they don’t realize that school taxes are over 50 percent of the taxes.
The last time turf was put down at Bazemore-Hyder, VSU passed on the opportunity to pitch in money to help pay for it, so got no say in what it looked like, which to my mind is as it should be. This time, perhaps VSU saw reason and ponied up.
If Moody closes, we will be told it was because of DOD downsizing. But it’s obvious our leaders don’t provide the best for the best military. If they don’t care about losing about 5,000 airmen and their families and the massive economic setback, do you think they care about losing the general population, with many fleeing when Moody closes. TitleTown will then be No. 1 poorest city.
