VALDOSTA — The Lowndes and Valdosta school systems’ pride in consolidating school calendars is one more step toward consolidating school systems.
VSU has a policy of issuing parking permits and making violations. There are schools in Valdosta and around the U.S. that do neither. The policy is just another financial burden upon staff employees, faculty members and especially the students. Even those who are disabled must buy a parking permit. It is simply a perverse form of extortion and a way to make a great deal of money having nothing to do with safety and security or traffic control.
I would love for the City of Valdosta and Valdosta State to put caution lights and walk signals at all crosswalks for campus. On Patterson there are lots of students on foot. There should be a scheduled stop pattern. Sad for a child to lose a life because we won’t spend the money to do it right. Traffic in Valdosta has changed — upgrade for people's safety.
The City of Valdosta had a hometown guy to choose as their fire chief, but went outside. Please voters remember this when it comes time to vote. We don’t want this town to become Albany.
Over the past four years that we’ve been in Valdosta, we have repeatedly heard “if you don’t like it, leave.” Well we are, and guess what? We are taking our checkbook with us!
Less than a week ago a VSU student was killed while doing exactly what she was supposed to do while walking across the road. However, that fact does not seem to cross the mind of these college students who cross the street where there are no crosswalks, without looking.
Let’s congratulate and welcome the new Valdosta Fire Chief Broome. The who you know, good ole buddy system has came to an end. Finally, the most knowledgeable and educated was chosen. Wish him well. He has a huge mess to clean up.
Once again, people don’t understand or invest the time to research an issue before blindly ranting about it. Why would the Industrial Authority elect to continue to pay rent on a privately owned building and gain no equity for the taxpayer when a mortgage on a new facility is cheaper? I applaud their decision and recognize good leadership when I see it.
