Rant & Rave for Tuesday, May 28, 2013

The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — Sad to see so many disappointing, mean comments about the Bridgemen’s trip to Hawaii. I had two children in the band and was excited for them for each trip they went on, California twice, New York, twice, Chicago, Orlando. The trips are planned well in advance, payment schedules set up and if enough kids can’t go or their parents can’t afford it, the band doesn’t go. So, I am sure that with all the negativity, the trip will get canceled again, sad for the kids, sadder that parents forget it’s about the kids, not them.

Can’t help but to wonder why Lowndes County is wasting the taxpayers’ money on civil action against Deep South Sanitation, instead of putting all that money on more important issues. If I have to write out a check for the service then I have the right to choose who I write that check out to. Deep South has given me wonderful service, they are locally owned and operated and the money stays right here in Lowndes County. The Commissioners say that they haven’t had any complaints about Advanced; they haven’t read the rant and rave section. I say next election is out with the old and in with the new. We the people of Lowndes County can make our voices heard loud and clear then.

Okay, my fearless leader is a very busy man with a lot of national and worldwide issues that need his attention. I don’t mean to be insensitive, but maybe those living in “Tornado Alley” should either take extra precautions during tornado season or move away. There is no reason why there shouldn’t be storm shelters in every home and facility in Tornado Alley and surrounding areas. After several years of devastation — everyone should’ve known better.

I am a Lowndes High Bridgemen parent. In 2009-2010 I had three kids with the Bridgemen;  2011-2012, I had two kids  and this year  I am down to one.  I tail gate on Friday nights, attend the  football games Band Booster meetings and also say it is ridiculous that a few of the band directors want to go to Hawaii. We can find a place somewhere in the continental United States for the kids to go. Not everyone can afford the trip to Hawaii.

I know we have to have trash pick up, but is there any way they can come behind and clean the streets? Every time they dump a can or stop, the garbage juice runs all over the road and really makes for a lovely evening relaxing on the porch. The smell stays until they come around the next week.
