VALDOSTA — The rest of the world is not using more efficient energy. A significant part is still using beasts of burden powered by grain. The environmental damage caused by this “carbohydrate” economy is significantly higher than coal and oil.

What can we do? We are victims of 3- to 8- and 9-year-old children. We were called by the police to meet them at a rental property we had just finished renovating ; he had caught these three children shooting out every window and the glass sliding doors with a BB gun and some golf balls. They are minors so they were turned over to their parents, and we can’t even go to the parents; their names are being withheld due to their ages! What would you do?

Valdosta State University has slapped their summer graduating seniors in the face. No graduation ceremony held in our honor. What about the students? Valdosta State University no longer cares about their students. Their main concern is based on the profit margin, salaries provided to their staff and new construction. They need to remember it is the students that provide their salaries.

For the person who found my lost wallet last Friday and kept it instead of turning it in for an honest reward, I hope it made your day.

A 46 percent increase in electric rates are forecast for Georgia and our Enviro-Ranters are all for it. Meanwhile, the poor will get to choose between having lights and having food. You Enviro-Ranters don’t care much for people, do you?

I agree with the ranter who says that LCS needs to release all the out-of-district students to ease overcrowding. That would be an interesting investigative piece for the VDT to do!

EA projects 367 new coal power plants for China and India. 45 percent of U.S., 41 percent of Germany’s and 79 percent of China’s electricity comes from coal. Every modern convenience, including electric vehicles, is ultimately powered by coal-fired electric power production. The rich countries inch away from coal but China/India for instance, with 36.4 percent of world population project to use well over 10 billion metric tons a year for many years to come. It is not going away.

So, elected leaders pass laws to make them feel better about sinning? Laws like allowing women to vote? Ending slavery, preventing large companies from poisoning the air and water, preventing discrimination, stopping child exploitation, and ending tax evasion by the rich? Dude, you need to take a history class.

I am very disappointed  with our commissioners who voted for this tax hike for Lowndes County. We voted for the SPLOST with an understanding we would not get a tax hike. Liar, liar, pants on fire, is what my mother used to say.

Here’s an idea. Learn basic math before posting numbers about crime rates. The US has 1 violent crime for every 26 citizens not 1 per 262. Geesh.

To the ranter about the A/C in the jails, you are 100 percent right. The male and females should be treated equal. Neither side should have any A/C. If I am struggling to put gas in the car to get to work to put food on my family’s table and not running our A/C to keep down our living cost then why should those parasites get their three squares a day, cable TV and A/C? Put them in tents and pink outfits and feed them PB&J that comes out of their own funds. Yes, just like Sheriff Joe out in Arizona.

It seems people in this town, and especially those in my church are not happy unless they are complaining about something. Today’s earth-shaking rant is that the choir members are too noisy when they change into their robes before the Mass. Give it a rest or you won’t have a choir.

Funny, the people criticizing immigrants coming here looking for a better life for their family, are only here because their ancestors immigrated here for a better life for their family.

Of the proposed 75 million that is needed to teach the students of Lowndes County for one school year, 55 million of that goes towards salaries. I don't want to hear no complaints about teachers salaries or furloughs again.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!

Some hillbillies have more money than you do, they just don't flaunt it. Most are hard working, good people, unlike the wealthier, selfish, spoiled, inconsiderate brats. You can lose all your money and education in a blink of an eye. Be thankful God has allowed you to be or have what you do and treat others as you want them to treat you.
