Rant & Rave for Monday, May 27, 2013

-- — To the person complaining about the "fearless leader" not going to Oklahoma yet: Have you been yet or have you even sent in any contribution toward them yet? I bet not.

Although the honor’s program at Hahira Elementary was wonderful, families who had to park in the grass that hadn't been cut in weeks had to walk through weeds and tall wet grass to get to the building for the program. Very irritating, especially for the elderly. If I am paying taxes I expect the grounds to be kept up with at my child’s school.

To the elderly couple from Morven soliciting a ride from Winn Dixie, claiming your son got in a car accident after driving you to Valdosta, and was in the hospital. All you needed was a bite to eat, a little money as your electric had been turned off, and a ride back to Morven. As a Christian, I helped, and even drove you back to Morven. But then I overheard you pulling the same scam on another unsuspecting person yesterday, at Winn Dixie. Shame on you, as God sees all. Shoppers beware!

Doesn't Mr. Bowman realize that by scheduling the Hawaii trip on Memorial Day, he is messing with graduation plans?

Thirty-plus years ago I was in band, had a widowed parent, and if I didn't earn the money to go on a trip, I didn't go. My mother did not whine or complain and I never missed a trip. Thanks to all who bought the pecan cluster candy. I still recall the Washington, D.C., trip with great fondness.

Do you really believe that politicians vote the way their constituents want them to? They'll say anything to get into office and then vote on topics which ever way they can profit from the most. That's why background checks got shot down despite the fact that an overwhelming majority of U.S. people wanted them legislated.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.

The Swiss issue all adult men a firearm. Owning a gun does not condone, or create, violence. Lay blame on the person not the tool. If you really believe that banning firearms will end the violence you are sadly misled. All that will happen is law abiding people will not have guns and the criminal (who doesn't obey the law anyway) will.
