Rants & Raves for Thursday, October 10, 2013

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — I admit to being scared of the Tea Party, but not because they are intelligent. I'm scared because so many of its members are gun fanatics who can't even be bothered to spell check their obnoxious, and often racist, signs.

What happened to deputies patrolling in school zones? Driving on Norman Drive in the afternoon, the school zone is terrifying. I make sure to drive the 25 mph and it never fails, I have someone fly up on my rear then swerve around me to speed on down the road.

The Georgia Bridgemen are absolutely spectacular this year! These kids deserve so much more from the fans at Martin Stadium than mild applause. They play their hearts out in the stand for the football team and to get fans into the game, the least we the fans could do is show them the same appreciation.

Considering the campus was designed for foot traffic and seldom car routes, why aren't the VSU Police on bikes patrolling the university? I have never even seen a VSU police officer at the University Center in my four years here. Just an idea.

Taking down my "Vote Yes For SPLOST" sign isn't going to stop me from voting. In fact, I am going to work harder now to make sure it passes. Stealing my sign is against the law when it is on private property.

Thanks so much to the nice lady who helped me start my vehicle at the Honey Bee Festival on Saturday and also thanks to the couple who helped start it the second time. Each of you were a blessing sent from God and he will in return bless you in a great way.

My family has been waiting for our favorite restaurant to open, but it is delayed, even though ready to open, by Valdosta's city government red tape! Ridiculous!

I want to thank the person who paid for my breakfast Wednesday morning at Zacadoo’s on Ashley Street. You really put a smile on my face and made my day. I can’t wait to pay it forward.

OK, people, it is not about the 1 cent tax with SPLOST. While a part of me wants to vote for it, what you don't understand it is about simple economics. If your expenditures are more than your revenues, it must be balanced. You mean to tell me that there is no other way for the cities and county to cut back on their expenditures? No way! I know this for a fact; we can cut back on waste going on! So before you come back to the taxpayers and ask for more money, prove to us that you have taken that cut-back step.
