Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013

-- — Shame on those dumping trash at the edge of the woods in Blackburn Park in Clyattville. Animals are tearing into the trash and it’s making its way into the pond. I hope someone catches you and you get fined!

Law enforcement, you can collect big bucks if you will catch these speeders. Bemiss Road, Madison Highway, and North Valdosta Road are like speedways. Someone will be killed by these idiots. Please stop them.

That gas pipeline seems like a very bad idea. The gas comes mainly from Pennsylvania and Ohio, so why pipe it to Orlando and not the most direct port New Jersey or Delaware? Natural gas may burn cleaner than coal but leaking gas is extremely combustible and therefore dangerous.

New road paving or resurfacing has not been paid with property taxes in decades, if ever. There was federal revenue sharing but it went away. That is why SPLOST was created through state legislation to provide the needed capital improvement funds. There are DOT funds but they have dwindled and always require local match of funds when they are available. So if the new SPLOST does not pass, don’t expect any road construction after all current SPLOST funds are gone.

First, it was Blame Bush. Now, it’s the Tea Party and NRA. Why don’t we blame the two parties that have controlled D.C. for all this time, and yes, you may have to step off the Democrat plantation and blame them, too.

To city and county government officials: If you want us to vote yes to SPLOST, you need to be transparent in your project listing. Don’t talk in general terms, stop fighting against the taxpaying public, and start doing what you need to do to answer the public’s questions and concerns. Until you do that, I vote no!

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.
