Rant & Rave for Monday, Sept. 30, 2013

-- — Valdosta has to complete the projects on the referendum in accordance with state law. They also have environmental agencies and current lawsuits that will make sure it happens. The increases in rates may cover the new debt already used and the million dollars taken out of the water and sewer fund every year but not new debt. Use your vote to change management and the council and let those not up for election know you want change. Vote for SPLOST to fix the problem and for the rest of the community that has important SPLOST projects.

To the Wildcat fans who tailgate on Jane Street. Come on people, clean up your mess! This is disrespectful to your city and to the team.

Important message again. If it's in my yard, then it's not bothering you, specifically regarding campaign signs. It’s only September and people have already started with the dirty politics. A sign won't determine who wins but removing it without my permission may determine if you get charged with possession of stolen property. Now may the best candidate win!

You must lead a sad and bitter life when all you can complain about is cars parked on a lawn that you don't even own. You ever thought to mind your own business? What a pathetic, whiney nation we have become!

The condition of the library shows the incompetence of our elected officials. My house was built in the ’60s also and I fix things as they are needed instead of waiting for them to become a disaster.

Thank you to the person who confirmed the laws for pedestrians and bicycle riders. The only thing worse than a know-it-all is a know-it-all that actually knows nothing at all. Bikes are considered a vehicle. So unless there are sidewalks available, bicyclists ride with the traffic and pedestrians walk against the traffic.

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.
