Rant & Raves for Thursday, April 4, 2013

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — SPLOST was voted out last year. Why are businesses in the city and county still collecting .07 cent sales tax and where is this extra money going?

The city has ruined our river for the year. We can't wait until November to vote. Then a year and half more until it's built. The city has to have some rainy day funds to do something now! I can't understand why Florida hasn't sued our pants off over the Suwannee River and gulf.

I know! Cut some salaries, pensions, benefits, and insurance and wow — there's the millions we need to make some instant improvements to the manholes over-topping with sewage.

April is Autism Awareness month. Please take the time to educate yourself a little more about this disorder that affects one in 88 children and one in 54 boys. Teach your children about it. Help stop the discrimination that is placed on these children. Spread the word!

If we are under ‘sequestration’ how much was spent on the White House Easter bunny extravaganza, including security and clean up?

I’m reading the articles concerning the sewage issues that Valdosta has had, is having, and will continue to have. It seems to me that the city leaders are putting all of their eggs in one basket (SPLOST) in paying for the repairs that have been long overdue. I, personally, am not giving this lack of leadership money to spend. My vote will be 'No' on SPLOST.

My vote will be no on any upcoming SPLOST until the present county and city leaders are voted out.

For the two parties fighting over free meals and yellow vans: Please stop. Server: It's great that you are serving meals, but slow down. Receiver/ complainant: Thank you for bringing it to the attention of the driver that he/she needs to slow down and be careful because young children are running alongside the van excited to eat.

I don't know if there's a law against using someone's name online or on message boards but if this person is degrading your name and reputation, there are laws against that. It's called libel and/or slander, depending on whether the person is speaking to others about you or writing things about you. And that is against the law.

If there are people that live in Lowndes who are still in the mindset that they can dump their garbage anywhere they want, that is very sad. They should be punished with a hefty fine, after they have cleaned it up by hand.
