Rant & Raves for Friday, December 21, 2012

VALDOSTA — To the person complaining about having to wait 20 minutes for the motorcycle toy drive, unless you have a medical emergency, what is 20 minutes out of your day? You should have  spent that time to reflect how fortunate and how blessed you are  to be able to provide for your family and thankful for others who are willing to give to others unselfishly.

Neither alcohol nor cars were designed for the express purpose of killing. I am sick of the tired “guns don’t kill, people do.” Those people have much too easy access to guns and that’s what they use to kill.

You’d never find me on a motorcycle, but the toy runners are heroes. Quit griping about waiting 20 minutes.

The toy riders are great givers. I cannot believe anyone complained about them. Stay by the mall next year, and you be troubled, Scrooge!

I believe in the right to bear arms but that doesn’t mean the right to have unfettered access to all types of weapons and ammunition and magazines.

As a parent of Echols County Schools, I was very thankful to see Tim Ragan and Tony Hudson in front of the elementary school the week after the Sandy Hook tragedy. It was comforting to me and my family.

I wouldn’t say I loved “Lincoln” but as I did pay attention, I realized that the parties were pretty much opposite back then. I even whispered to my spouse, “I thought it was the Republicans (in my head, thinking ‘the South’ because that’s how it is now, not across the board but generally speaking) that wanted slavery. Only cost me about $30 to learn it. The movies are crazy expensive now!

I would like to send a big rave and a warm Happy Holidays and God bless to Amy Tyler at the Georgia Department of Labor. While it seems most people at the DOL are mechanical, Amy Tyler is a caring and encouraging employee, who understands sometimes bad fortune happens to good people. Each time I have encountered her, she has always been pleasant while being realistic.

Estimated that 10 percent of the U.S. population are career crooks, caught and not caught. Crime is the most logical career choice, all things considered. Because our governments (politicians) and their cronies have jiggled all systems to promote crime. That’s how 10 percent puts such fear in 90 percent. Causing great expense in security and causing the great self-defense gun debate.

I am very disappointed  with our commissioners who voted for this tax hike for Lowndes County. We voted for the SPLOST with an understanding we would not get a tax hike. Liar, liar, pants on fire, is what my mother used to say.

Here’s an idea. Learn basic math before posting numbers about crime rates. The US has 1 violent crime for every 26 citizens not 1 per 262. Geesh.

To the ranter about the A/C in the jails, you are 100 percent right. The male and females should be treated equal. Neither side should have any A/C. If I am struggling to put gas in the car to get to work to put food on my family’s table and not running our A/C to keep down our living cost then why should those parasites get their three squares a day, cable TV and A/C? Put them in tents and pink outfits and feed them PB&J that comes out of their own funds. Yes, just like Sheriff Joe out in Arizona.

It seems people in this town, and especially those in my church are not happy unless they are complaining about something. Today’s earth-shaking rant is that the choir members are too noisy when they change into their robes before the Mass. Give it a rest or you won’t have a choir.

Funny, the people criticizing immigrants coming here looking for a better life for their family, are only here because their ancestors immigrated here for a better life for their family.

Of the proposed 75 million that is needed to teach the students of Lowndes County for one school year, 55 million of that goes towards salaries. I don't want to hear no complaints about teachers salaries or furloughs again.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!
