Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012

-- — Nowadays, holidays (like Halloween and Christmas) are all about how much you can get instead of looking at the meaning of the holiday. How much candy can I get in one night? How many presents can I get in the morning? People everywhere have lost the true meaning of these holidays. It's so sad.

SPLOST projects can be found on the City of Valdosta's website under the Engineering Department. I'm voting YES because I love the city I live in and have no intentions of moving, so why not see more improvements for the years to come and for my future generations?

If you miss going to Shorty's Steakhouse you should try The Lighthouse Grill in Ray City. Their food and service is wonderful.

A big rave to the family in KingsGate subdivision. You put on a Great Haunted yard. Scared a lot of kids I am sure. However, the zombies in the road were dangerous. Looking forward to next Halloween!!!

People, if you are going to be playing loud music in your house all night, at least have the decency to close your windows.

Can someone explain why Berrien County with only 20-something football players needs nine coaches plus other personnel on the sidelines every Friday night? Couldn't that money be put to better use?

Speaking of trash collection, our trashmen took one of our pumpkins and left it on the ground. Three weeks ago, they smashed the lid on the can and cracked it. Two weeks ago, they broke it off the hinge and took it with them.

With all going on with the East Coast and storm victims, I don't see why the election is not delayed. You have the victims, workers, volunteers, and many other people who the last thing on their minds are the elections. This says to me that either candidate could care less about your vote in reality. I say there's room there for a recount later.

I live in Foxborough, and every year I am shocked and disappointed by the number of rude trick-or-treaters and their inconsiderate parents. You drive over grass, park in the middle of the road, send your young kids around unsupervised, and leave tons of trash in my neighborhood. Meanwhile, you get to go back to your own house and not worry about the cleanup. How about staying around your own house next year?

Estimated that 10 percent of the U.S. population are career crooks, caught and not caught. Crime is the most logical career choice, all things considered. Because our governments (politicians) and their cronies have jiggled all systems to promote crime. That’s how 10 percent puts such fear in 90 percent. Causing great expense in security and causing the great self-defense gun debate.

I am very disappointed  with our commissioners who voted for this tax hike for Lowndes County. We voted for the SPLOST with an understanding we would not get a tax hike. Liar, liar, pants on fire, is what my mother used to say.

Here’s an idea. Learn basic math before posting numbers about crime rates. The US has 1 violent crime for every 26 citizens not 1 per 262. Geesh.

To the ranter about the A/C in the jails, you are 100 percent right. The male and females should be treated equal. Neither side should have any A/C. If I am struggling to put gas in the car to get to work to put food on my family’s table and not running our A/C to keep down our living cost then why should those parasites get their three squares a day, cable TV and A/C? Put them in tents and pink outfits and feed them PB&J that comes out of their own funds. Yes, just like Sheriff Joe out in Arizona.

It seems people in this town, and especially those in my church are not happy unless they are complaining about something. Today’s earth-shaking rant is that the choir members are too noisy when they change into their robes before the Mass. Give it a rest or you won’t have a choir.

Funny, the people criticizing immigrants coming here looking for a better life for their family, are only here because their ancestors immigrated here for a better life for their family.

Of the proposed 75 million that is needed to teach the students of Lowndes County for one school year, 55 million of that goes towards salaries. I don't want to hear no complaints about teachers salaries or furloughs again.

Is it another sign of the times that people are too lazy to send thank you notes? I’ve bought four wedding gifts and two baby shower gifts since April 1. To date, I've received just one thank you note. It’s just good manners!

It cracks me up when people say they don't want to be in a business or location where people are carrying weapons. My husband is a police officer and when he's off duty, he always carries concealed. I have a strong feeling that you might be happy one day that one of the hundreds of off duty officers are "packing" if you ever have a need for them!

People rant on here, but don't bother to attend the County Commission's meeting about the tax increase. I bet you don't vote either. If not, you forfeit your chance to gripe. Just hush!
