Rant & Rave for Monday, Oct. 26, 2009

I would love to see better enforcement of loud music laws in the neighborhoods, especially near VHS.

The only reason we have summers off from school was to meet the needs of a predominantly agrarian economy through school children who used to provide farm labor. Since the days of wide-spread farming are long gone, we'd be wise to explore any options that might give our children a leg up on the increasingly competitive education offered around the world.

Year-round schooling isn't an Obama invention. Many places in the country have adopted this practice over the last 20 years, to great success. Somehow their parents have managed to put education before ease.

Compare the literacy and high school graduation rates for states that have already adopted year-round schooling and you'll quickly see there is an educational advantage. If Georgia would put students first, we'd likely see our educational ratings rise.

I want to thank John at Chick-Fil-A for changing my tire. My husband was out of town and I had no idea what I was going to do. John was courteous and more than willing to help someone in need. Thank you Chick-Fil-A for hiring reasonable, caring employees who go beyond the call of duty.

Hats off to Jay Shaw Insurance Company. He has done a great job with their fall scene. It is a great asset for the community. He should be commended for doing a great job.

The so-called silent majority must have "tough decisions" confused with ruthless politics. Why don't you all come out of hiding and give your words some backbone. I have proudly defended the coach of a school I never even went to because he is being treated unfairly. Stop being stuck in the past and learn to care about the youth in this situation. They are the future.
