Rant & Rave for Monday, July 14, 2008
Is anyone else in Valdosta and Lowndes County concerned about the crime rate, or is it still just TitleTown that we're interested in? Gang members are kicking in home owner's doors and nothing is being done. We have to drive with car doors locked. Businesses are being robbed at gun-point. What has happened to Valdosta?
I totally agree about the fact that our kids have nothing to do. A beach island would be nice for summer months, like the one they had near Tifton. Also a new skating and bowling alley just for teens. The building at Five Points would be great.
On Thursday, July 3, I arrived at the DDS (old DMV) to simply renew a driver’s license that expired that day. I waited in line for 45 minutes without ever talking to anyone, getting a ticket or being told that the office would quit serving customers at 5 p.m. At 5 p.m., myself and about 10 others were turned away from the office, without ever getting any service. Just because this is the only place to renew a license in town, does not give them the right to be totally unjust. This was shoddy service (or lack thereof), to put it in the nicest terms possible.
I live right over the Lowndes/Brooks County line on the Brooks side and I do not have a place to recycle any longer due to the recent changes Lowndes has made in regards to their trash. How am I supposed to do my part for the Earth if I have nowhere to take my recycling? Please Brooks County, come up with a program.
In the Northeast, many dance clubs/bars often hold a “Teen Night” (i.e, once or twice per month on Thursday from 7-10 p.m.). These clubs open their doors to “teens only” and give them a place to socialize, dance, and have a good time. Do any clubs in Valdosta offer something similar?
If it's 90-120 degrees when I am at Wild Adventures, I may take off my shirt, too. It's outside, not church.
If you want people to stop using marijuana, legalize it. The government will put so many taxes on the drug, like they did with cigarettes, that it would be far more expensive buying it from legitimate sources than it would've been from the black market.
Let's keep the Rant & Rave full of reminders to vote for TitleTown the 24- 26 of July. If anything, this town knows how to compete, so let's get to it.
