Rant & Rave for Wednesday, May 14, 2008
The Valdosta Daily Times
A simple solution for Lowndes County trash disposal: Increase the taxes on alcohol. I have to pick up the beer cans out of my yard and in front of my business on Highway 41. If I am going to have to pay the county to dispose of someone else’s garbage they should have to pay the tax.
I would like to send a huge rave to Ms. Allen and the fifth-grade teachers from Moulton Branch Elementary for a wonderful trip my son and I had to Atlanta this past week. Everything was well planned, coordinated and executed.
Until the city comes up with their recommendations on how to handle the vagrants, we, as citizens, should just ignore them and not give them money or food. The more free things they get, the harder it will be to get them to move on. We’ve already had an episode where people have been threatened. Don’t make it dangerous for everyone else.
Thank you to the kind shopper at Winn-Dixie who turned a purse over to the store folks after it had been left outside in a buggy. You saved somebody a heap of trouble by your honest act.
The best time to drill for oil in Alaska was 10 years ago. The next best time is now.
Do you know what uses up massive quantities of gas and pollutes the environment? NASCAR. No other activity, because you seriously can’t call it a sport, pollutes and wastes our natural resources like NASCAR. Maybe we should ban it or thank it for helping contribute to raising gas prices.
This is not to diminish the serious nature of the charges. If the prosecutor and investigative team used the same common sense as did the defense team and jury, the teacher may have never been charged. There are certainly no winners here.
It’s time Valdosta and GDOT time traffic lights to help us with fuel economy. If the big cities can change lights to help with telecommuting, why can’t we? Starting and stopping cars has a big impact on fuel usage. Carpooling should be encouraged.
