I agree that VSU faculty salaries are horrendously low. I used to teach there. Since quitting and finding another job, my salary has quadrupled. If you respect yourself and your family, consider doing the same. You may have to leave Valdosta. But trust me, you won't miss it much when you're cashing your paycheck in a city that respects people with advanced degrees, talent, and ambition.

So George Bush and Dick Cheney were able to single-handedly make gas $4 a gallon? I think you need to go study supply and demand economics. Then tell your Congressman to drill for oil and allow for the oil companies to build some new refineries in America. This will flood the market with oil and make it go back to $1.50 a gallon.

The next time we have to fight terrorists in the Middle East, we should call our war Operation: $1.35 A Gallon. I'll bet if you do, we won't see any anti-war protesters in the streets.

George Bush and the Republicans are behind the high gas prices? In November 2006, the last time the GOP held the majority in Congress, gas was $2.19/gallon. Under the Democrats, it's now $3.66/gallon. This is Nancy Pelosi's "change" that you voted for.

It amazes me that Democrats do not want to secure our elections by simply requiring a photo ID. You have to have a photo ID to do just about anything these days, so why not require one to vote? The only explanation I can figure out is the democrats need those illegal votes to win the next election.

I'd like to give a rave out to VSU for conducting the faculty salary study. As a result, faculty have been brought within 100 percent of the national average, meaning faculty have been earning below average for at least a decade. If VSU wants to attract the best and brightest, then they should aim for more than average. There was a three- year period where VSU faculty did not get a raise though the cost of living continued to increase.

I have had enough with the beggars who are meeting up and then harassing our community. If you are in fact "just passing through town,” you should keep passing through and harass someone else. It's bad enough that they have posted themselves at each exit (both sides of the road), but they are now taking to the mall, harassing shoppers there as well. Please do something about this.
