Culinary classes seek Old West taste

VALDOSTA — The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts continues its culinary-arts series this week with Experience the Old West in the South food class.

Leslie Beal, former owner of La Cantina Restaurant, teaches this one-evening course, featuring Southwestern and Tex-Mex dishes.

As with all of the culinary-arts classes sponsored by the Center for the Arts Guild, participants not only learn how to create the menu of a full meal but are also served the meal, along with recipes, cooking ideas, etc.

The arts center has hosted these culinary courses since opening its new headquarters a few years ago. Featuring many area chefs and cooks, these courses use the center’s fully equipped kitchen facilities to share the culinary arts.

Experience the Old West in the South kicks off the latest series of culinary-arts classes.

On Oct. 7, participants will meet at 10 a.m. for a trip to O’Toole’s Herb Farm, Madison, Fla.

On Nov. 7, Tom Fazekas of Five Points Liquor hosts a wine-tasting class at the center.
