VALDOSTA — Victory Temple Evangelistic Center’s Praise Team leader Russell Jackson had never written a song in his life until he was inspired by Bishop Henry Williams’ sermon one Sunday morning.
“I told (Williams) after writing the first one, and then they just kept coming,” Jackson says of the songs that kept being inspired by Williams’ sermons at Victory Temple.
Eleven of those songs are on “Victory IN Praise,” a CD featuring performances by Victory Temple’s Praise Team along with excerpt introductions from Bishop Henry Williams and Pastor Gwendolyn Williams.
This weekend, the church hosts a CD-release concert, open to the public, where songs from the album will be performed live and the CD will be available for purchase.
Some of the CD’s songs have become part of Victory Temple’s services, Jackson says, such as “The Offering Song” and another song which is performed during the church’s monthly communion service.
Williams’ sermons continue inspiring Jackson’s songwriting. Jackson says he is already writing songs for a second album.
