Thumbs up, thumbs down

The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — THUMBS UP: To the Georgia Department of Transportation employees who have been on the job all night for several weeks to pave North Valdosta Road. The crews have been working hard to get the job done, and are moving traffic quickly and efficiently through the affected areas. The road improvements are appreciated, as is their professionalism.

THUMBS UP: To Deb Cox, election supervisor, and all of the people at the Lowndes County Board of Elections for handling more than 20,000 voters during the early voting period of the past few   weeks. Voters may have pulled into a full parking lot expecting long waits, but the elections staff had them in and out of the office, with votes cast, in about 15 minutes. Thanks to the election board’s planning, early voting was not only a right but a breeze.

THUMBS UP: To the folks at Moody Air Force Base for conducting an amazing open house and air show last weekend. At its busiest, some visitors reported wait times stretching from 90 minutes to two hours to get on the base but most found the wait worthwhile as they received a better understanding of what airmen experience and witnessed the thrills of numerous aerial performances including the Thunderbirds.

THUMBS DOWN: To Allgreen Services pulling its trash cans from customers without no or little notice. The can collection occurred in the wake of Lowndes County commissioners recently granting the county’s garbage pick-up to Veolia starting Jan. 1. An Allgreen representative said the cans had to be collected now to avoid hassles during the holiday season. But the company has created hassles for their former customers.
