Eligible voters should cast run-off ballot today

VALDOSTA — You may not realize it but today is an election day.

Part of the reason many people may not realize today is an election day is because it applies to very few people.

If you don’t live in Valdosta City Council District 2, or the City of Lakeland, today is simply Tuesday. If you live in either location then today, Dec. 3, is indeed an election day.

Precisely, today is a run-off election. This means that in the race for Valdosta City Council District 2 and the race for Lakeland’s mayor, no candidate received the necessary 50 percent plus one vote to win in the Nov. 5 general election.

So, candidates Calvin Graham Sr. and Sandra J. Tooley vie today for Valdosta City Council District 2, while incumbent Lakeland Mayor Bill Darsey and challenger Patricia S. Miller vie for the Lakeland mayoral position.

While only Valdosta City Council District 2 registered voters are eligible to choose between Graham and Tooley, all Lakeland registered voters should be able to cast a ballot for either Darsey or Miller.

If you are one of the few eligible to vote today, do your duty, cast a ballot.
