The Valdosta Daily Times
Tonight, in seeing the internationally touring, professional production of “The Addams Family” musical, many audience members will continue a long family tradition: Attending the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts Presenter Series shows.
For many years, the arts center has scheduled the Presenter Series shows. These shows have become long-standing traditions with some families having kept the same seats year after year through their season tickets.
However, others discover a full season they would like to see each year. Some may love to see one or two shows while having no interest in the other productions.
We commend the arts center board and staff for its continued efforts in bringing the Presenter Series to life each season. The Valdosta Daily Times remains a proud sponsor of the Presenter Series.
With “The Addams Family,” the Presenter Series has stepped up its game. While all of the Presenter Series shows are professional productions featuring talented and skilled performers, “The Addams Family” crew is not only touring the United States but the show also spent two months touring Asia earlier this year.
The musical features characters that should be familiar to generations of audience members. Gomez, Morticia, Fester, Lurch, Wednesday and Pugsley all have their origins in cartoonist Charles Addams’ macabre New Yorker cartoons that started in the 1930s. The characters were regulars on the 1960s television show. They enjoyed success in two 1990s movies. And again when this musical first played Broadway in the 2000s.
With its multi-generational appeal, “The Addams Family” may be the show to start a Presenter Series family tradition of your own.
