Valdosta great for retirees

The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — The secret is out — Valdosta is one of the best places to retire in America.  An article in the latest edition of Where to Retire magazine on “America’s 100 Best Places to Retire,” lists Valdosta as one of four cities in Georgia that should appeal to retirees. The others are Athens, Savannah and the Golden Isles/ Brunswick.

Among the reasons Valdosta was chosen is the climate, obviously, but other qualities include having a vibrant downtown, ongoing education classes, volunteer or part-time work opportunities, walkable neighborhoods, access to health care, and advantageous tax situations.

For those researching retirement options, this magazine is one of several that serve as guides and Valdosta’s inclusion is a wonderful opportunity for the community to promote and market. Retirees no longer want to sit in rocking chairs and watch life go by — they want to be active participants, run races, do volunteer work, stay engaged in learning and teaching, and socialize.

With so many retirees calling the Valdosta area home already, this exposure will no doubt create even more interest in our community. And we welcome them.
