Don’t let rain dampen your weekend plans

The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — Although the current forecast calls for an 80 percent chance of rain today and tomorrow, there are several events in the area Saturday that shouldn’t be missed, regardless of the weather.

As the summer winds down, the Downtown Farm Days will only be around a few more weeks, so take advantage of your opportunity to buy fresh produce and homemade products from local farmers and area vendors. The event is around the historic courthouse square downtown from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The same hours apply to the South Georgia Senior Living Showcase at the Rainwater Conference Center Saturday. The show gives young and old the opportunity to hear about products and services geared to our active senior population. Each year, the show grows larger, with more than 50 vendors and up to 1,000 visitors. There is no admission fee for the event.

In the evening, the Berrien County Chamber of Commerce hosts the Monster Truck Showdown at the Berrien County Saddle Club at 8 p.m. Sponsored by SGMC’s Berrien hospital, the show features Wildfire Motorsports well-known owners, Rob and Kelly French. The couple appeared last year on the CBS reality show, “The Amazing Race,” and went far into the competition while traveling around the world. They will be performing as will the Little Monsters, a team of mini-monster trucks driven by children. The show also features head-to-head racing and freestyle stunts. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children at the door.

Whatever your speed, whatever your lifestyle, there is an event for you this weekend in our region.
