It is a walk that not only raises awareness, not only raises funds, but also pushes people toward taking the first literal steps in living a better life.
The American Heart Association’s 2013 Lowndes Heart Walk is scheduled for Saturday morning. Registration is 8 a.m.; festivities begin at 8:30 a.m.; the walk begins at 9 a.m. All at McKey Park.
Many walks raise awareness and funds for various causes throughout the year, but walking can actually lead to each participant having a stronger, healthier heart.
Heart disease is one of the nation’s top killers. Obesity, inactivity, poor lifestyle choices can lead to heart disease.
Exercise, such as walking, can be the first step to losing weight, getting the blood circulating, and strengthening one’s heart.
This event is a great way to get started. American Heart Association representatives will be present to help people make the first steps to a healthy life, while participants can raise money to fight heart disease and have fun doing it.
