What We Think: Everyone can Make a Difference

The Valdosta Daily Times

- — It takes volunteers to make a difference. This coming weekend, Valdosta and Lowndes County residents are expected to spend the day making a difference in the life of their community.

Our local folks join people from across the nation as part of Make A Difference Day with the Keep Lowndes/Valdosta Beautiful cleanups.

H. Aaron Strickland, KLVB executive director, said he has several volunteers already registered for the 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, clean-up, but he could use more.

There are multiple sites selected but Strickland asks that volunteers contact him to register and be assigned a specific site. Interested volunteers can contact him at (229) 671-3698; or email

USA Weekend Magazine founded Make A Difference Day which falls on the fourth Saturday of October. Millions annually participate nationwide. Locally, hundreds of people have volunteered their time each year.

Yet, making a difference can extend beyond the planned activities or even one day.

Helping a neighbor, volunteering time with a local organization, sharing skills where needed are all ways to make a difference.

And these differences can be made in the life of a community, in the lives of individuals, and can be seen and felt in Valdosta-Lowndes County, every day.
